Black + Woman + Republican = Abomination

I’m really tired of people who scratch that. Earlier, I got on my Facebook to find some post by a friend about black republicans and another about republicans in general…in fact my whole news feed is 75% blindly liberal as a result of the lovely “elite” higher education institution I attend.

Now technically, I’m not what one would think of as Republican (because people seem not to believe in spectrums of conservatism anymore). I’m pro gay marriage as well as pro abortion (anti for myself but who am I to decide for every woman???…my point exactly and don’t go Bible thumping at me!). However I usually identify as Republican (when it’s necessary otherwise I could care less), instead of the Libertarian party that my views align with the most, just to prove you can be articulate, a woman, black and OMG a Republican.

The truth hurts but here it is:

  • I think people should be able to carry guns – my family owns guns and I know many people who do and they don’t go shooting up people…a little insensitive, I suppose so and for that I apologize, but seriously it’s one of our Constitutional rights…if people keep blindly begging the government to intervene in everything sooner or later every right we have will be taken from us before we even know it. Sorry not sorry that I don’t want a society where we are all “taken care of” yet have no real freedoms (we barely have any as is)…do we really want to end up on soma?
  • I’m not really down for healthcare reform. I know, you’re thinking…privileged little black girl, who is not at a top institution, who is she to talk, she hasn’t ever needed healthcare. And you’re partially right. My parents have always had healthcare so that when I had to go to the hospital a few times this past year, they, along with their insurance, were able to pay for everything. However my parents had to work for everything they had, my grandparents lived in the rural South…by today’s standards they would be your target audience for government assistance of all kinds. Yet they accepted none of it.
  • Again, sorry not sorry but things like medicaid were made for people to get on, use to get back on their feet, then move on and get off. But we have people, some of my relatives, who sit on it forever, milking the government of everything. And whether you want to realize it or not, my generation is going to have to pay for this which is probably why so much of the libertarian party is people of my generation.

I’m not going to go on and on, this is not one of my polisci classes…yeah, you guessed it, that’s my major. The point I’m really trying to say is I’m not concerned with bringing you over to the dark side. Those are my viewpoints, my opinions. I don’t care what your opinions are just stop insulting republicans as a whole because the one’s you see are usually the uber conservatives. that’s something I’ve come to realize at the school I’m at.

I’m not trading on my race or gender by being a Republican/Libertarian. Just because I prefer Ron Paul (haha hell no, not Mitt Romney), to Obama (love him and his family though) doesn’t mean I’m not black enough or whatever. Black people need to wake up. Like seriously, to twist Samuel L. Jackson’s probama ad, wake the fuck up!!! Stop blaming the white man for everything, stop acting like we are victims, stop buying into the idea that only few selected exceptional black people can “make it” that’s what they want you to believe, and get your ass up and do something.

Sorry…that was a little heated. Not that you can ask them, but anyone who knows me, especially my liberal friends, will tell you I’m a very nice person. And I love the fact that I’m black. I’m just worried that my people aren’t going to make it because, as a race, we are so overwhelmingly dependent on the government for our survival. We also seem to have a huge chip on our shoulder, like the hate of generations past has been passed down to us. I know it’s hard, I’ve “caught” much more of it than I had before while being at college but we have to let it go.

Also I know an argument against Republicanism is often that the economy isn’t the only thing that’s important but the economy is extremely important. Aside from being racist, sexist, etc… the Founding Fathers of America understood this, that if the economy fails, nothing else will matter. That is why (I know, I’m channeling Ron Paul here) the Constitution gave all powers not give to federal government to the states (because federal govt cant do everything), and why George Washington advised us not to get involved in foreign wars…

More on this topic later :)

P.S.

Yeah, I identify as queer also so I suppose I’m like a superfreak or something, haha.

  1. It is refreshing to read a young person’s blog who thinks for themselves instead of simply accepting what the media/elite wants them to believe.

Keep up the good writing–I am with you on the limited government talk.
